I got a new lens, a 50mm 1.8, so of course I had to run around taking pictures of various things. Joe Jackson, my cat, is a common and easy target when I’m playing around with new stuff.
Freezing Motion

During a break from work I decided to try my hand at freezing the motion of water, with some help from Joe Jackson.
Of course my supervisor had to make sure that the water level was correct before the experiment began.
The basic idea is to darken the entire room to near pitch black; pre-focus the camera on the subject; have the camera on a long exposure (four seconds in this case); set the flash to a really low setting; and trigger the flash as say a olive hits the liquid.

Being that he is much more of a lover than a fighter Joe Jackson just needed to have his very own mini Valentines shoot. This of course was in the middle of Christina’s pictures, while she was changing, when he decided this.

Joe Jackson had a pretty good Christmas I think. He got 4 new toys, 12 tins of wet food, and a couple visitors that he could lay on. It’s pretty much all a cat needs in his life.
He loves his wet food, probably a little too much. I can’t even make a motion towards fridge without him freaking out. Even now after finishing his latest Grilled Chicken Feast he is watching me like a hawk in case I should go anywhere near his food.
These pictures were taken back in August after my computer chair broke.
